Card Games in General

Card Games are a really awesome way to spend time between classes...

  1. My friends and I enjoy playing this one card game called "Village Idiot"... You can play from 2-8 players...

For 2 players deal out five facedown cards (each) and five faceup cards {above the facedown ones} (each) then deal the remaining cards as each player's hand...

For 3-4 players deal out three facedown cards (each) and three faceup cards {above the facedown ones} (each) then deal the remaining cards as each player's hand...

For 5-8 players deal out two facedown cards (each) and two faceup cards {above the facedown ones} (each) then deal the remaining cards as each player's hand...

One player starts by placing a single type of card (3,9,Jack,etc.) from his/her hand in the center (pile) ***More than one card of the same type can be played at once***
The game goes clockwise or counter-clockwise (player's choice)
The next player must place a card(s) equal to or high than the last card played*. [If a player cannot beat the pile they must pick the pile up and end their turn]
Once a player runs out of cards in their hand they must begin to use their faceup cards
Once all faceup cards and hand cards are gonethe player must randomly flip over a facedown card on their next turn [If a player cannot beat the pile they must pick the pile up and end their turn]
The game ends when all but one player is out of all of their cards...

*The card values go from (least - greatest) 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,Jack,Queen,King,&Ace...
    2&10 have special rules:
10 clears the pile but also ends your turn...
2 allows you to put anything else on the pile (if you place a two you must put something else on top as well) In other words skip everyone else's turn and go again...
In addition if their are four cards in a row (without 2 or anything else) in the pile {Placed by one or more people} the pile is cleared...

    Enjoy!!

  2. This game sounds a little bit like gin rummy. Have you ever played gin rummy? How about pinochle? To be a really good card player I think you have to be good at math and keeping track of the cards. Would you agree? Have you ever tried bridge? Now there's a super game that is really challenging and forces you to keep track of every card and count all the time.

I like your blog. You can become the "guru" of cards and have a following in that area. If you make your blog really informative your classmates will run to your blog each week so that they can learn more card games. Keep going.

How come you commented on your own blog? You could have put all of the card game information into your prompt and then let your classmates comments.

Make sure you add some of the gadgets to your blog each week. Nice beginning. Dr. Ries
